A Visual Representation of Dr. Allen’s The Metaphor of a Rose Unfolding

Project Description:

Dr. Ronald B. Allen’s The Metaphor of a Rose Unfolding (class notes) is an amazingly simple and effective way of understanding the Bible from a Unit-like perspective.

I endeavored to create a digital and visual representation of Dr. Allen’s work to help future students of the BE 109 class appreciate even more the power of this particular metaphor.

Please note that the final production piece is slightly different than that of my original Project Proposal. Please refer to original documentation for clarity.

Each Horizontal Row represents a different “set” of images corresponding to a different physical state in the life cycle of a rose:

  • Full Bud
  • Opening
  • Full Bloom
  • Full Blown

All rows follow the same format and contain the same elements:

  • Column 1 has the Title and portion of the Rose poem.
  • Column 2 has the description of the rose’s state.
  • Column 3 has the Biblical Focus of that particular metaphorical state.
  • Column 4 has the Biblical Texts associated with the Biblical Focus.
