Family

*sigh*

It’s been a bit since I’ve posted.  An recurring illness had cropped up recently and pretty much taken me entirely out.  But nothing like a good dose of hardcore medication and steroids…!

I woke up today feeling absolutely wonderful.  It was like I had moved from old tape-recording media into digital HiDef 1920×1080…!

Praise God!

So, in other news, I’ve recently jumped on the HD-train and gotten myself a Canon Vixia HF10, a stunning HD Digital Camcorder that won’t annihilate your budget like the Sony HDR-SR12, which I had bought first but was shamed by my wife (and that’s a good thing) because of the ungodly price tag of 1,399.00 (not including tax…!).  Sadly, I had NOT done my homework and realized within the 30 days return window that Canon offered a comparable HD experience at half the price.  Super lame.

So I’ve been in “shooting” mode, or at least trying to be.  The biggest issue now is rendering them and formatting them for consumption outside the video camera itself… I realized I neither had the software capabilities nor the hardware requirements to do HD video editing… which will eventually lead me probably toward something like the Apple iMac with Final Cut Studio (which unfortunately costs something outrageous).

What to do.

I did happen to have some old software which was able to convert successfully some of the HD from the Canon, but I’m pretty sure the conversion/compression isn’t the best.  But, my first go round wasn’t too bad:

You may have to go to Vimeo directly to see it on HD, which you should because the above is extremely grainy.  Hit the HD button on the right side of the vid or go there directly here.

Finally, I found some amazingly cool photography-related desktop icons.  Go ahead and download ‘em!

If you’ve got any tips, tricks, hints for a HD video n00b, please let me know!

Have a great 4th of July!
