JesusTweet.com silently launched this morning.

There’s already been a lot of swirling conversation about whether the Christian Community needs something like this or whether it’s “redundant,” “unnecessary,” or just plain “silly.”
Here’s what I think…
For me, this is as much of a technological experiment as it is a ministry. Coming from a developer background I’m always pushing the boundaries of what I personally know how to do. Launching crazy idea-websites is part of that.
And to a certain degree, I think this is part of how I honor the Lord with the skills that He’s gracefully entrusted me with. To that end, I will always seek to and attempt to encourage others who have similar giftings, to do the same.
Build it for the Lord, His Glory, His Fame, and make much of Jesus through online web technology.
But “Hey!” (some say), what about “engaging the world” and “bringing others into the saving knowledge of Christ?” What about “being in the world but not of it?”
To that I say “totally.” I’m so down with being on Twitter and tweeting about my daily devotionals, my praise reports, my prayers, etc… But, let’s sit down and be honest with ourselves for a bit.
How many people has the Lord used you, by His Holy Spirit, to bring into the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ? Seriously…? I know it’s not about “numbers.” But let’s be pragmatic for a sec.
From where I stand, I do not see nor believe that we, as the Christian body of tech-loving believers, have even begun to put together the “best practices” of engagement for web, technology, and the social graph for ministry or evangelical purposes. That doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in it. I believe, that through His Power, He can, indeed, bring people to faith.
And I think we’re getting better at it every single day.
But we’re not there yet. What I do believe in is along the lines of 2nd Timothy 3:16-17, which says:
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
What I want to do is provide tools and/or software which might be used by the man of God to be equipped for every good work. Certainly I’m making a little stretch here and comparing technology and web development with the Word of God (and I apologize if this offends you), but I think (or I hope) my point is clear: Use your gifts, whatever they may be, to encourage, restore, teach, rebuke, correct, and train others in righteousness.
I do web development. What do you do?
So, JesusTweet.com is here. If you’d like to join this little experiment, I’d love to have you sign up. It’s invite only, so, shoot me an email: johnsaddington [at] gmail [dot] com .
