The Apple Doesn’t Fall Far…
Riley Hawk, son of the extremely famous Pro Skateboarder Tony Hawk, has begun to show great promise in the same industry and sport as his father.
In fact, as this video shows, he’s beginning to pioneer his own unique moves. Which made me start thinking of my very own progeny…

“May I take a message?” (Not even 1 yet here…)
Roenne is not even 2 and she already knows how to navigate an iPhone to call her grandmom, figure out how to get to her favorite bubble game, and play some music via iTunes.
She knows how to navigate our Sony PS3 / Blue-Ray player and fast forward sections of Sesame Street that she doesn’t like (Count von Count is one scary dude for a 2 year old!)
She can also operate our digital camera and HD Canon Videocam. She has also left me pleasant surprises via my computer’s webcam for me to find a day later.
She is surprisingly agile with my computer’s mouse and touchpad as well and frequently manages to delete stuff from my desktop (which is an interesting argh-moment but also a wow, great job roenne-moment too)…
Is she (or has she…) going to become like her father and heart teh interwebs? Is the apple going to fall pretty darn close to the tree? (Should I care…?)
I suppose the bigger question that’s been on my mind is whether or not that’s 1) healthy or good thing… or 2) my fault or 3) just how it is.
It harkens back to the age old question of whether it’s genetic or learned, and all that psycho-babble stuff… but it does honestly make me think whether I’m guiding and leading her rightly. Perhaps I’m giving myself too much credit in her identity, interests, and skills?
My desire is that she learn to harness the gifts that God has given her and that she can use them effectively and missionally for his Kingdom and His Glory and His Fame.
If she’s into computers, wonderful. If not… whatever.
I just want her to be her… does that make sense? I mean, I admit. I’m just a n00b father.
