30 Days of Blogathletics

fitnessfail

It’s been a little more than 30 days since I got an ego-shot to my face, thanks to my wife.

I’ve been working out consistently, going to the gym about 2 to 3 times a week. I feel even more “fat” though, probably because at every turn I see stuff like the picture above.

Our culture has done everything possible to make everything as easy as humanly possible.

Productivity and things like GTD are great, and the world promotes it and idolizes those that are awesome at it but, I think more things in my life needs to be harder, not easier.

I’m not asking for it, I’m just sayin’…

I need some blogathletics-accountability. Who wants to nag and annoy me to get off my butt and into the gym? Open invitation here.

:)

I try to be consistent but I am not as consistent I want to be. Most weeks I go 4 days a week in the morning once babysitting opens. And then 2 or 3 days a week I go in the evening with my wife. But last week I only got in 3 times because I was traveling for work. This week I added a second niece and she is still too young for the babysitting and so I can't go in the morning. My wife has been working late all week and we haven't gone at night so here I am on Friday and I have yet to go.

I am totally right with you. If you lived 20 mins closer I would be your gym buddy. But you don't. So I bring my kindle and read or listen to a book. Even if I hadn't lost 10 lbs since January (which I have), I have finished a ton of books.

Keep it up. I had gone to the gym for about 3 or 4 months or so before I started losing any weight.

      word up.

should i go get oen of these kindle things?

Depends on how much you read. It is a great reading device. It is lousy as a web browser/email device. It is ok for audiobooks only if you use Audible.com. It sucks for all other audiobooks. Don't buy it to save money on books, you probably won't unless you only bought new hardcovers before. It is convient to buy books, but there still are a ton of books you can't get. It is very good if you are into the classics (public domain books) because all of those are free. If you like mostly new books, often get books at the library and/or don't read much forget it.

I will say that reading while using a treadmill, even on a kindle where you can have super large print, is about impossible.

I love reading, but don't like working out. Maybe I can blend the two together like you do.

dude, get off your butt and get out into the big old world and enjoy it. Make exercising fun. Play with your kids, walk with your wife, be intentional about parking in the furthest spot and take the extra steps to get into where you are going. Little things like that add up. But yeah, get into the gym as well – at least 3 times a week. You owe it to your family to be in good enough shape to live healthy years so they can enjoy you!

you can do it John. I believe in you…

I hear one of the best things is Boot Camp. No gym membership required. Again, I "hear" it's good. I'd have to have a buddy roll me to a workout.

Is there anything that qualifies as exercise you actually enjoy doing? And you definitely need to find a partner not just to hold you accountable but to go with you. Once you are in the gym, it is still easy to not really push yourself or hold yourself accountable.

      I like to dance… But don't tell anyone…

the pistur caught my attention. this on'es really funny. it's a gym and look at the enrolees: using the frekin escalator! *sigh* you're hopeless!

I was just joking alright. I have high hopes on you!

I got my egoshot to the face a little while back after I accidentally stepped on a freight scale (it was flush with the floor in a warehouse) and looked over at the giant LED readout on the wall. I was hoping it was a clock, but unfortunately there is no 188 o'clock. I have since joined the gym :)

      haha. wow. yeah… i can only imagine…

I recognize that picture. That gym (or one just like it) was in Hilton Head, SC. How funny!

It's incredible how lazy our culture is. Someone in my small group this week told me that she didn't join a particular gym in town because it had three floors, and you have to walk up stairs to get to the treadmill. Hmmm…
