A New Kind of Language

I’m scared about the language that my daughter is going to learn to speak, new forms and all.

Is that typical? Does every parent have this fear?

Ugh.

My husband had that same fear when our oldest started kindergarten this past fall. I think it's typical.

I'm just laughing hysterically at the comic… ingenious!

As for language… language continually evolves. Our parents had the same concern about us. Their parents had the same concerns abou them. Our kids will have the same concerns about their children.

We are considering the prospect of kiddies soon and this is one of those things i am gravely concerned about. Txt speak is hard eneough toi keep up let alone street speak.

What happened to great words like – "Groovy" or "Wigeddywigeddywack" or "Boomshakalak….boom" – it will be difficult to keep up with the kids!

I dont want to mention the fact that if we have daughters they wont be alowed to date till they are 30 and i will follow the around with a baseball bat and the best "menacing father" look i can muster!

Is your concern that you won't be able to connect with your kid as their generation's language changes faster than you care to? Or that you won't understand her and her friends? Or that their she won't understand you anymore?
