Confession: Sometimes I am a Legalist Blogger

I’ll admit it.

There are times when I just don’t have the time to blog. There are definitely times where I just don’t feel like blogging (like right now, which is ironic… kinda).

And there are times where I just force myself to; it’s like I’m a legalist blogger.

I’ll do it out of duty and some sense of self-righteous trained behavior rather than interest and passion.

And yeah, I know there’s something to be said about “responsibility to your readers” but, common… seriously?

Gotta blog today… gotta blog today… I’ve got nothing to say but I’ve gotta blog today. … God, I hate blogging…

That’s a nice little jingle.

Anyone feel me on this?

[If your curious about the image... it doesn't have anything to do with the content in this blog post. I found it randomly a long time ago and felt like having it in this post. Makes sense? The End.]

    No, you really don't.

'Responsibility to your readers' is little more than blogger speak for a messiah complex.

Don't blog when you don't want to blog. Sure you may not be as "successful" of a blogger, but you'll probably be a much happier one. Unless the blog police confiscate your happiness as well.

But hey, what do I know? You're the pro here ;)

Boy do I feel this. I did the I gotta blog last spring and only stopped that cycle by going on a blog fast for the summer. Now any feelings of guilt in not blogging daily are more than offset by the peace of blogging when I feel called to do it. The problem is, my blog is dying a slow death as a result. But maybe that is the cycle it needs to go through. I will not a legalist on this anymore.

As far as the picture, except for the :girl's best friend" she is cradling and the muscle car in the background, it could be a Norman Rockwell painting.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! Typically the "i gotta blog" thoughts are followed by "why do I blog? I only have 25 readers on a good day. But I gotta blog. I can't not blog.. I love to blog. I hate blogging. I love writing. Maybe I should write a book instead. I gotta blog." :)

    Yay – I'm not crazy! Well… hmmm…

I have to agree, there are times when blogging feels like a duty more that anything else. I suppose it comes down to looking for the joy in what you do. If there's not joy, don't do it. Otherwise the duty will show itself as empty.
