I Disclaim My Content!

<~~~ The Hammer of Justice! (Random video game reference…)
*Ahem*
Attention Please.
Per the new policies and guidelines officially created by my employer, North Point Ministries, I have added the following disclaimer on my “About” page:
The posts on this site are my own personal opinions. They are not read or approved by North Point Ministries, Inc., before posting and do not necessarily represent the views and opinions of NPMI.
I’ve never really had one before. It feels somewhat odd but at the same time refreshing. Perhaps we should just go all-out on it and make some stylish “badges” that make it more “official” looking…!
Eh. I’ll have to think about that.
Regardless, I officially disclaim my content!
I’d also like to add that I completely support 101% anything that my Senior Leadership agrees to pursue and enforce. I trust their leadership, wisdom, and discernment. They have never let me down.
The End.

Man, I wish I would have had this on my blog about a year ago.
I put one of those on my blog. The more "visible" I become on the web the more my opinions could bleed over into my work environment. Its a necessary evil to ensure that no one gets confused.
$10 says you're totally making that badge RIGHT NOW.
first revision sucked. i'll have to start over…
yes. it's a good thing.
I used to have something like that… it read, "The views and opinions expressed on this blog are my own and do not reflect those of my family, friends or Our Saviour's Lutheran Church". I should probably put it back…
My recent post I’m a Church Planter!
update: my disclaimer has been there all along… it reads, "The views expressed on this site may not reflect the views of family, friends or those of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church."
word…
My recent post Our Saviour’s “Goes Google”
you disclaim family and friends? that's itneresting.
Yeah, I don't really know why though… I don't have any family members that are running for office or anything but I suppose they could at some point…
My recent post Our Saviour’s “Goes Google”
haha! i like it. that's a pretty good consideration.
Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges!
I felt that was obligatory…
heheh!
All posts may not reflect the opinion on NPMI, but you can't tell me that they all don't love that wedding invitation post.
HAHAHA.
Definitely could make it:
The posts on this site are my own personal opinions. They are not read or approved by North Point Ministries, Inc., before posting and do not necessarily represent the views and opinions of NPMI, unless we say the same thing, at which point we will confirm and then high-five and cross comment on each other's blogs.

This made me smile

I think these disclaimers are rediculous… here's one from a guy I know personally, and the sad thing is… although it's funny, he means every word of it: http://www.johnchow.com/my-blog-disclosure-policy...
More Warcraft references!
Hmm…I've been very conflicted by these disclaimers, especially for church employees. It's always had a sense of ridiculousness to it. Honestly, my viewpoint, concerns, ideas, and language are some of the very reason I work at the church I work at! So to then disclaim them sounds kind of silly! Especially, when so much of my job is social interaction and personal.
What I do like about this particular disclaimer though is the " They are not read or approved by North Point Ministries, Inc., before posting". That seems to be a good articulation of a disclaimer that I'd use if I had one…which maybe I should whenever I revive my lifeless site
My recent post I’ve lost my internet footprint
Conner, I'm with you. I actually teach that these disclaimers seem bogus to me in my Web + Worship 2.0 seminar. Why? Just like you said … as employees of the church (especially if we're on the pastoral team, maybe that's the difference?) … I can't just separate my personal views from those of the church. If my personal views are controversially different than the views of the church I'm serving in … why am I there?
I suppose it depends on what level of "controversy" or "opinion" you have. I guess I'm still out to lunch on it. IN this case, the church asked them to put that up … so it's OK. I'm laughing at the individual employees who put it up, without the counsel of their leadership.
"I can say what I want, it's my life … my thoughts, and my church where I work has no accountability over what I say and how I use this pulpit to communicate". Hmmm …
