Jerk.

shutup

Some people have the gift of mercy and others apparently don’t.

Some people know exactly the right words to say and then there are a few that really don’t get it.

Some people don’t really know how to be a jerk and then there are others who have obviously practiced.

One guy emailed me and told me, essentially, that this happens a lot and that I shouldn’t be too concerned and that I’ll get over it because it (again) “happens to a lot of people”. He proceeded to send me tons of “factual” data and scientific findings.

Thanks.

That’s like telling me at my friend’s funeral that: “Hey, everyone dies eventually, right? You’ll be fine. I mean, we’ve all gotta go sometime, right?”

Could you, sir, be more socially-retarded?

Sorry, /ranting a bit… For those with strong sensibilities here’s the picture I wanted to throw up but couldn’t.

Puaha… that feels a bit better… … … … only a little.

Some people are chronic idiots. Try not to take it to heart. Praying for you and your family.

I want the censored picture as a poster in my office. Yes. It is true.

Sometimes, I wish I lived in OT times where everyone was given at least 30 days to mourn such a loss and the only socially acceptable response was to wail with them. Sackcloth FTL.

      I completely concur.

Know that for every person like that you have 10 who are loving on you, praying for you and feeling your loss.

As Mark Twain said: "Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."
Still praying but now for more people ;-)

some people are just idiots – no grace and no love

I feel your pain and frustration with this.

When I was told that I would miscarry, my PASTOR and BOSS said, "Oh, you'll be fine, I know someone who had 11 miscarriages and she's OK." SERIOUSLY???? As my PASTOR and BOSS you picked THAT to say to me?

(Side note: I no longer work OR attend there.)

Please know that I am praying like crazy for you, your wife and your daughter. I will now add to that to pray for people around you to not be idiots.

Sounds like Job's friends who tried to console with a lot of jibber jabber and had no idea what they were talking about. At times like this, best thing to do is to say nothing and to be with the person who is hurting. I'm really sorry to hear that this happened…

A number of years ago, I had a seven month daughter who passed away. A very close friend of my sister said to her, "Well, if only they had more faith, maybe she would have lived." … Needless to say, she is no longer my sister's friend!
    Some people are just idiots.
I'm praying for you and your family.

My wife's father died a couple months ago. I can't tell you how many people that thought it would be comforting to say, "He is in a better place." "He would prefer to be there than here." Etc. There is something about death that makes people, and I think especially Christians, stupid.

The best line at my dad's viewing was "If Jesus walked up to him now and asked him if he wanted to come back, he'd say 'No way!'". NOT HELPFUL!!!! The Shields' are praying for you guys!!!

You know that deal where well-meaning people say inappropriate things to folks who are grieving? Yeah… That happens a lot.

    Sorry, John, I couldn't resist. :)

I'm sorry for your loss. I'm praying for God's comfort for you and your wife.

  13. techmiss April 23, 2009 at 2:34 PM #

Careful guys – saying the guy sucks and calling him an idiot show no grace and love either. The words were hurtful, potentially heartless and certainly salt in a wound. We are right to be offended and to encourage john but let’s be careful how we do it. We’re all on here talking about reaching the world with the gospel but our impact is more than our posts.

  14. techmiss April 23, 2009 at 8:03 PM #

PS – I'm sorry for sounding so judgemental. I too probably spoke too soon. There are reasons but none that matter.

  15. Jay April 23, 2009 at 4:08 PM #

Good grief. As Ancoti said, you've got a lot more people praying for you and your family than there are Dr. Phil wannabes telling you to "get over it."

Come to think of it, I'll pray for that guy as well. He could take some Covey advice and "seek first to understand."

  16. Mikes April 23, 2009 at 10:02 PM #

hmm. let me practice being speechless. i can, right?

  17. JakeSchwein April 23, 2009 at 10:49 PM #

    Sorry man!! Some people…good grief

  18. David April 24, 2009 at 1:59 AM #

I have tears falling down my face after just reading about the loss of your baby.

  20. Rodlie April 24, 2009 at 2:37 PM #

that dude is a loser…nothing more to say.

  21. Jim April 24, 2009 at 2:48 PM #

give me a break…it'd have to be someone like my dad, who would never say that. that's an instant face-punch reward.

  22. Henry Zonio April 24, 2009 at 5:16 PM #

you're allowed to rant… still praying for you and your family

I'm a nice guy, but I realize that people have a fetish for abuse. I accommodate them whenever I can.
