Making the Switch: A Legendary Move

I’m making the switch. This weekend I’m officially retiring my XPS M1210 and going to be using the MacBook Pro as my mainstay for multi-media foolishness.
This has been an epic battle of the will, but let me assure you: PC’s are still my homeboy. I’m making the switch out of sheer necessity, but out of choice: I simply do not have the funds to get myself another rocking lappy customized to boot in the price range that it would require… and my Dell relationships have since “matured” beyond any direct benefit (but if you’re listening, I do love freebies!).
So, I’m forced to move to the MBP. I shall now attempt to learn how to navigate this silver beast with poise and grace… If I ask random (and seemingly n00bish) questions via Twitter, please answer them kindly first then you may laugh freely. Remember, I used to design for Apple about 4 or 5 years ago… … this new OSX 10.5 is crazy different though.
Ugh. Let the schooling commence.

Yes! Bring on the questions.
hehe. oh they will come.
here's the first: how can i freakin' change the icon size on my desktop…
view your desktop (make sure finder is showing) and then hit ⌘J then move to the desirable size. mine are 20×20
how do i find more shortcut keys. those rock.
just google what you are looking for or you can just ask me
as someone who made the switch over the past couple years I think you're making the right move… not that that matters – enjoy!
…
i'm excited for you
thanks dave! we'll see how this rolls.
welcome to the darkside
agreed.
Welcome.
I recently decided to get a MBP as my first Apple computer, but PCs are still my homeboy too. Here's evidence: http://flickr.com/photos/lancefisher/3086700758/
omg. send me a sticker like that. please.
I'd love to, but I only have this one that's already stuck. I got it from a girl who works for Crispin Porter Bogusky. I bet you if you'd write them, they'd send you one. They did the recent Vista commercials. p.s. I guess you have to update your bio now
oh snap. … no. i've decided not to. i'm still bringing in my mini9. hahah.
John, dude. We HAVE to do this. Although the one I have to hide my shame is pretty rockin… http://dewde.com/2008/09/hiding-my-shame/
so… i should get one of those? kinda freaky…!
I can't understand the homeboy status, but I'm glad you've finally arrived to the Apple tree. It is practically the tree of life. peace. (@freshgreenbeans)
Wow, I thought you already made the switch. I guess you have learned your lesson the hard way huh?
Just because you use a MBP as primary doesn't mean you have to give up on PC. I still use mine, well as a doorstop but I still use it.
… dude. that's a good one. i shared that with sue. she unfortunately chuckled….
I'm with you on this one @lightvox. I still use my PC from time to time. Mainly as a frisbee so my dog can get some exercise. They fly through the air quite well.
omg. pwned.
i use mine for the dirty, dirty job of torrenting. legit stuff of course. like when our tivo borks up an episode of So You Think You Can Dance.
… no good mac clients for torrents?
i'm sure their are, but I like to keep stuff that eats up CPUs and bandwidth off my main box if I can help it.
night time is the best for it. foo.
I made the switch in February and have never been happier. Yes, there are adjustments but once you adjust…you’ll never go back! Congrats and welcome to Mac-a-mania.
Make sure you buy the Apple Care extended warranty. My 15-month old Mac mini just died without one. Apple’s answer – buy a new one. FAIL!!!
Welcome (back) to the dark side.
I switched from a PC to a Mac this year and NEVER looked back!
… i will forever look back.
Hmm, Genesis 19: 17 & 26. Don't even make me throw some NT on you.
oh no you didn't…
Oh. yes. i. diiid.
oh no you didn't. again.
making the switch for good. kinda.
It's always darkest before the dawn. In other words, you'll get over it.
dude, that's awesome. dark knight quote. i'd give you 10 points for that.
What does that buy me?
um. extra cool poncho.
for some reason i thought you were a Mac user. whichever way… congrats. i heart Macs.
kinda sorta, but not really.
right back at you.
I'm totally a Dell guy too… but I'm slowly coming to the realization that in order to effectively do what my job will require in the future… I need to go Mac. Money is pretty much keeping me from buying one right now tho… my current web connectivity machine is the XPS M1530… no complaints about Vista either. I do need to learn Mac tho…
slowly. not by choice by but circumstance…. weeehaaaa.
Macs rule! You're going to love it!
hehe. rockon.!!!
keep us posted on the ups and downs, john. that's my next move. i'll enjoy using you as a lab rat(sorry PETA-strictly figurative)
all good! keep it up!
The dark side is the best side. Seriously, shortcut keys are awesome btw.
Look for a dashboard widget called xcuts. You can probably google it. It might help with figuring out shortcut keys… it might not.
sweet! thanks or the headsup.
Welcome. I hope I did not miss any tweets for help! Hows it going at this point?
