Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Ads: FAIL?

I’ll be honest, I actually chuckled once (or twice) watching Microsoft’s new ad campaign for Internet Explorer 8.

What do you think? Do they deserve the FAIL card? Or are they just lame…

I think Microsoft took down this last one because of “content” that was “suggestive” in nature and that people didn’t really like.

So… I did what good bloggers do… find someone who saved a copy and reposted!

PUAHA. I HEART THE INTERNETS.

Ok… cumon, number 3… it's still the slowest browser on the market!

  3. Josh Wagner July 2, 2009 at 11:27 AM #

Ok, those are pretty lame. And I'm pretty sure you can do all of that with Firefox… ;)

      hoho!

    • stephenbateman July 2, 2009 at 8:13 PM #

and if you don't *want* to do it with firefox…just take the plugin out.

and the last one says removed by user…I wonder why.

      • human3rror July 2, 2009 at 8:24 PM #

        because it was… \”suggestive\”… perhaps?

They are really bad, but anything to get explorers users to upgrade away from ie 6 is good for all of us!

    • human3rror July 2, 2009 at 12:32 PM #

oh. good point. nice job seeing the \”plus\” side of things.

    • Maria July 2, 2009 at 12:52 PM #

Yes Brad, I think putting up with a few lame ads is MOST worthy of putting ie6 to rest. Good point!

You are clearly a true web technologist. My hat off to you, sir.

    • Jim July 2, 2009 at 3:30 PM #

no…no…no…his was a lame interpretation of superman.

    i don't think they're that bad.
they are much better than those bill gates jerry seinfeld ads.

    • human3rror July 2, 2009 at 1:45 PM #

really? many say those were better…!

      • davemiers July 2, 2009 at 1:59 PM #

        yes. really.
        gates seinfeld were too slow.
these ones are at least a little snappier and in your face.
anyway – not going to spend too much time defending either of them!!

give me seinfeld tv show any day!!

I'm a Microsoft fan, but I gotta say. Those are serious FAIL.

He has a sort of William Shatner/Priceline thing going on…I don't think they were unbearable, but certainly not up to par against the "Get a Mac" campaign

  9. Daniel_Berman July 2, 2009 at 1:55 PM #

Priceline atleast had something of a James Bond seriousness to it. These Drama 5, Stupidity 8 of 10

    Firefox – Browse Better

The thing I don't get is that 95% of the people who never download a new version of IE will never see these spots…they only go to two websites…amazon and ebay. and of course msn because its still the default home page

loved the nasty golf pants in the 3rd and the phone drop and plant prop in the 2nd….he kind of freaks me out in the 1st…makes me smile more as i am in the process of getting my new mac while i am here in LA makes it worth the whole 2,004 miles on the road

  12. Mike July 2, 2009 at 3:54 PM #

I think they are pretty annoying, but the fact is no matter how good the commercials are, it will be a tough sell to get people to switch back to IE once they've gone to Firefox. And the newest Safari is not half bad either on PC's.

  13. Graham Brenna July 2, 2009 at 5:34 PM #

I don't like IE but these ads were funny! Guy walking into frame carrying in a plant… come on!

"It's Dean Kane grandpa… he lives in our chair" – that's just top notch! Seriously… good stuff!

    • Josh Wagner July 2, 2009 at 8:46 PM #

Yeah, that plant walking in and…oops! Exit stage right… I did laugh at that!

  14. XIII July 2, 2009 at 7:42 PM #

The last one's been removed. But yeah, fail. I'll stick to Firefox and Safari. However, it'd be nice if all the people still using IE6 finally upgraded.

  15. Katie Kinsey July 2, 2009 at 8:15 PM #

While the last one was gone, I can say with a fair amount of certainty that they really do just FAIL.

  16. Jonathan July 2, 2009 at 10:36 PM #

    Fail.

Except for the second one. Dean missing the phone cradle on the first try and the dude walking into the frame were pretty funny.

  17. Mikes July 2, 2009 at 11:55 PM #

    bordering to funny and OA

Well I suppose they are memorable..just memorable in a bad way. The potentially give you nightmares way.
