New Years Resolutions – What Are They?

new_year_resolutions_2009

So, it’s that time of the year again… where we examine the past 365 days and we ponder the next… we start creating new goals for ourselves and try to, perhaps, correct some of the mistakes that we apparently didn’t fix.

2 Questions: Do you do and/or believe in “New Years Resolutions”?  If so, “What are They?”

I personally enjoy the processing part of reviewing the year and making goals for myself.  I’ve got a number of things that I’d like to work on… but one I’d share with you right now:  I want to make 2009 a year where I invest in my family like I’ve never done before.

It’s so worth it.

Your turn.

I dont know if I would call the resolutions, mine are possibly goals. These are just among the many…..

    1. Be the best dad I can be for my babies.
    2. Be more disciplined with my finances.
    3. Take a vacation…..for the first time in 5 years(seriously).
    4. Tap into my creative side again.

Like I said, these are just a few goals (among the many) for the new year. I will more than likely write a blog post about the rest LOL.

My wife and I set a goal last year to "live a simple life with the kids". It sounds much easier than when you really put it into practice! The hardest part was learning to say "no" to things, events, and neighbors – we all get invited to many things or can easily fill up your calendar – but in the end the folks you really want to spend time with (wife, kids, God) get what's leftover. If you really want to challenge yourself this year, make it simple…

jeff, you are speaking my language. simple is where i'm headed…

I want to give my 4 children more eye-contact and engage in active listening instead of just talking at them. So many times I find myself not really listening to what they say. I don't want to be one of those parents of teenagers in 5 years who wonders why their kids don't talk to them.

I want to give more…not just money…time, patience, mercy.

wow, that's pretty cool. my wife has always said i could use some more eye-contact skills… good reminder, seriously.

I like to set goals for myself. So, in 2009 I would like to spend more quality time with the boys, like the park and simple things they want to do. They are growing up so fast. Other things would be, read more, stress less, and laugh more. Happy New Year!

Probably goals more than resolutions and the goal-making process and reevaluation extends throughout the entire year. I used to try and employ the change one thing about yourself once a month, but have waned off that since.

A thought for this year: do a little less work for the same amount of money. I think this year is not about making more and more money for our family. It is about earning the same, but having a little more time with each other. That is a neat concept for me.

I agree that we should be working to make ourselves better in Christ. I make a "resolution" about twice a month to spend more time reading scripture. But life keeps getting in the way. Starting to go to the gym 3 to 5 days a week has been pretty easy (because it has baby sitting). But still it only works during a normal week. Nothing special about new year's resolutions other than it is a good time to have an excuse to try a new resolution.

I am not really going with resolutions as I am life change. I want them to be life long changes:

    1. To learn who my kids really are.
2 To know by looking at my wife what she needs
    3. To be more involved with my Church
    4. To move into work that I wake up thankful I am getting to do it.
    5. To read more book.

    Those are just a few.
