WP Photographer Theme Released! – Contest Giveaway

wpphotographer_frontpage

Part of what I love doing is trying new things. With the recent purchase of a new DSLR camera I’ve been thinking about how best to present some of my photos online.

Why not create a new Wordpress Theme?

So, I starting putting one together. I showed it around to a few trusted friends who are real photographers and they liked the concept. So, I’ve decided to release it as a paid theme.

See some more screenshots, find out how to purchase, and join the free giveaway after the jump…

wpphotographer_blogpage

The idea here was to keep it super simple in terms of design aesthetic so people could design around it and give it their own personal touch.

With a big frontpage carousel and a wide-body area for your blog posts, you’ve got a 2-in-1 system for awesomeness. It only requires 1 plugin for navigation (provided) and that’s about it.

Demo and Purchase:

You can see a live demo as well as purchase the WP Photographer Theme here:

I’ve got a special promo going there for 50% off as well as an opportunity to become an affiliate so you can make a few bucks.

Comment Contest and Giveaway!

Since I just launched it I thought it would be cool to give a few copies of the theme away. So, all you have to do is drop a comment below with how’d you use it and where. I’ll choose 10 lucky winners at random!

Ready? Go!

Dude I would totally use this, I am just in the middle of building a site for my lady, and cannot figure out the wp-theme to use. She is a budding photographer and I was looking for a clean site to demo her work. http://www.flickr.com/photos/carly_robinson/
If you want to check it out!

I have the domain, I have some hosting, I just need the theme!

  6. philldo September 28, 2009 at 4:41 PM #

Great clean theme. It puts the focus on the photos and not the eye candy or "cool" effects / interface.

    Keep it up.

  7. James Christerson September 28, 2009 at 4:42 PM #

Amazing… I found this from stephen's tweet… I am so inept when it comes to WP, that I just use one of their already pre installed themes… I would work my arse off to figure out how to use this.. or pay you to get it up for me… hahah

    Looks awesome man…

  8. Jay September 28, 2009 at 4:51 PM #

You're giving away 10 copies? So there's only a chance I might get one? Sorry, but I don't enter such giveaways on spec.

    :p

    Sorry. Couldn't resist…..

        Hehe..

        BTW, nice theme!

  9. Kevin September 28, 2009 at 12:54 PM #

Hey John, cool theme! I’m doing a 365 challenge, taking at least one picture a day for a year, and posting them. Would be a great theme to show my pictures in an easy to access theme.

  10. Matt Daniel September 28, 2009 at 1:16 PM #

    Awesome!

I’ve been debating on combining my website and blog into one location and may be getting back in touch about this! One question:

The links at the bottom…can they be moved to the top..in the header?

    Thanks!

    • human3rror September 28, 2009 at 7:20 PM #

you could do this if you'd like. it wouldn't be too hard.

  11. klreed189 September 28, 2009 at 6:08 PM #

I don't know how i would use it yet, but my best guess is that I would pass it along to someone else who is a photographer looking for a good theme.

  12. friar_don September 28, 2009 at 6:09 PM #

    Consider me entered.

Also, cannot wait to see your affiliate program….

    • human3rror September 28, 2009 at 7:20 PM #

the program is live… you can sign up already!

  13. Alex Morrison September 28, 2009 at 2:30 PM #

I would definitely use this, but maybe not just for a photographer, but for just a photo-driven site!

  14. Josh September 28, 2009 at 2:50 PM #

    Just started a new site…have domain…have hosting…learning WP. (yeah!)

I would totally take this theme….and snuggle up to it. :)

  15. Faye September 28, 2009 at 4:01 PM #

If I won this theme, I would totally get serious about putting my photos online for view/purchase. Always wanted to do that, but never had the ability. Your theme is SO professional, I’d look uber-cool!

  16. chrissulli September 28, 2009 at 4:17 PM #

    I’m in. Love the simplicity.

  17. Brian Alexander September 28, 2009 at 8:48 PM #

Not sure if you mind changing the theme up a bit, but if you had a link to meta data page for each photo or some way to use that info on the site.

  18. Stephen Parris September 28, 2009 at 8:49 PM #

I've been looking for weeks for a good theme that lets me showcase mutliple photos in a single post rather than one 'favorite' image. Some developers of other photo themes even claim "if you need one more than one photo to showcase your work from a particular shoot, you're shots aren't worth showing." Paraphrase, of course, but sounds like a copout for spending the time making the theme actually have practical application.

I'd be replacing my Ipseity (how's that for customer loyalty!?) theme at http://stephenparris.com. Right now I'm having to straddle that address and http://stephenparris.com/gallery just to show clients what they'd be getting into when hiring this poor-broke church planting tent-builder.

And besides…I have three kids and just moved them to Charleston, SC. I need a better way to show the grand 'rents back in Georgia what their grandchildren look like.

  19. Graham Brenna September 28, 2009 at 8:50 PM #

I've been waiting for this to be released ever since I asked if you were making one! Since I recently purchased a DSLR camera too I've been looking around for some photoblog WP themes. I plan on doing something like photogbrenna.com or something like that for this theme. I've been trying to get more creative with my picture taking ever since I bought the Nikon D40x. :)

  20. Jason September 28, 2009 at 8:54 PM #

Beautiful theme. I just picked up a canon 40d with a 70-200 lens for the sole purpose of chasing my kids around a soccer field. I put all my stuff on SmugMug, but this is would let me SHOW THEM OFF much better than burying them in a folder would!

  21. Russ Hutto September 28, 2009 at 9:22 PM #

Lovely! I'm a fan of human3rror themes!! Using I Like Content for my personal space. Great work!!

  22. Clyde September 28, 2009 at 5:39 PM #

Wow this is great. A design that finally highlights the photography verses the blog.

  23. hepp September 28, 2009 at 9:42 PM #

Great theme. I would love to use this to my photos.

  24. iRonnie September 28, 2009 at 9:17 PM #

i love photography and the hardest part of showcasing your photos is finding the right theme that focuses more on photos rather than on texts. this seems a perfect fit!

  25. Kristin Laughlin September 29, 2009 at 1:30 AM #

Oh this is GREAT! I've been wanting to start a blog to have a place to showcase my work in Africa the last two years. My website http://www.kristinjphotography.com, is mostly for my portrait clients, although I have a small gallery of Africa on there (which is actually where I've gotten some of my work in Africa recently), but I would LOVE to have a place to specifically show work I've done for non-profits and families adopting that center around orphan care, adoption, and orphan schools in Africa (and hopefully grow that to other parts of the world!). I also have a few slideshows from these trips, that I'd like to showcase somewhere instead of the back side of my website http://www.kristinjphotography.com/Slideshows/Day... , to encourage and educate others on the needs that 147 million orphans have out there and to encourage international adoption.

Thanks for your generosity in wanting to give 10 of these away!!

  26. santos samayoa September 28, 2009 at 9:35 PM #

wow, it looks great John! you do it all!

  27. Sten-Erik Armitage September 28, 2009 at 9:50 PM #

Wow – great theme, very eye-catching! I would use this to give my photo site a much needed facelift and to feature some photography for use under a Creative Commons license for non-profits and churches that I have been working on.

Thanks for the generosity in giving a handful of these away!

  28. John September 28, 2009 at 9:57 PM #

I’ve been looking for a clean design without a bunch of side menus and nice large pictures. It’d be nice to get this.

  29. Lon September 28, 2009 at 10:32 PM #

love it, that theme is hot and simple. just dabbling into photography myself… this would be slick.

  30. Terrin September 28, 2009 at 10:47 PM #

Very nice! Do you have a main page where you display your other wordpress creativity? I’d love to see more!

    • human3rror September 29, 2009 at 10:28 AM #

i've got a page at the top that says "wordpress themes"

  31. Kyle Horton September 29, 2009 at 2:47 AM #

    John,

Love it! I’ve been looking for something like this for my blog. Right now I put my images up on a MobileMe Gallery and just link to it. Problem is I loose my analytics. So I would use your WP plug-in to replace my MobileMe galleries.

    BTW – I too am a Canon user. I have the 5D – which I LOVE!

  33. Ady September 29, 2009 at 12:43 AM #

  38. Jeff September 29, 2009 at 3:14 PM #

Beautiful theme! I just got into the DSLR world as well with first baby. I'd use this to showcase her growth.

  39. Graham Jackson September 29, 2009 at 3:18 PM #

As a recent college graduate, I've spent the past several months shooting weddings and portraits, any opportunity to add to my portfolio. I've been looking for a good way to showcase some recent work; pointing potential clients to my Flickr account seems a bit lackluster. I started looking at wordpress blogs to display some recent shoots, and in the course of looking, stumbled on your amazing themes, and this photo theme giveaway.

Thank you, John, for the opportunity and your generosity

I recently was given hundreds of family photos taken mostly with a brownie camera. My goal is to scan all these photos and place them online with a family history photo blog. This will be a huge undertaking I know but what a great winter project! I’m also going to ask my mom to look thru all the photos and give a little history of as many of them as she can.

  41. WesBrawner September 29, 2009 at 5:53 PM #

I would use it to display my personal portfolio, apart from my wife's site. I have been looking for a theme that would allow me to do this well, and i think this one is perfect. Great work John

  42. Chris Harlow September 29, 2009 at 9:56 PM #

I've got a friend who is seriously considering starting a photography business. He came to me for some help in building a website and this theme would fit him great!

This is what he has right now. Just a temp site he set up for testing it out.

  43. Dustin September 30, 2009 at 6:45 AM #

Love this theme. I currently have a smugmug site where I host all my photos at http://www.dustinbess.com I am looking for a WP theme that is nice and clean like this for a specific line of my photography that I will have a WP blog for. I am TOTALLY new to this whole WP thing. Just figured out how to install tonight. Wanna hook a photog up? ;)

    • human3rror September 30, 2009 at 12:21 PM #

perhaps…! stay tuned for the winners.

  44. SimplyAubs September 30, 2009 at 9:57 PM #

Great job on the WP theme. It looks great! Have you given away all the free copies? :)

  45. Daniel Roberts October 1, 2009 at 7:49 PM #

I would love a copy of it. I've been so busy with other projects that my wedding/portrait site had fallen into disrepair. I threw your ipseity theme on there a couple weeks ago http://freshedgephoto.com but it's not the best for displaying pictures. I've been considering modifying it, but this new one would save me a ton of time.

    • Daniel Roberts October 1, 2009 at 8:09 PM #

There is something I'm not clear on though. Say I shoot a wedding and do a post about it. I want several pictures in the post, but only one of them on the carousel. Is that possible? I like the idea of images easily being pulled from posts to the carousel (you're only as good as your last shoot), but I don't necessarily want them all on the carousel.

      • human3rror October 1, 2009 at 8:14 PM #

yes. that's possible. it'll be two different posts tho in the current sys.

  46. Walter October 2, 2009 at 11:53 AM #

I love this theme – great work! I would use it instead of my pixelpost photoblog. I hope my photos are good enough for this theme ;-)

  47. @zariel October 3, 2009 at 10:30 AM #

I would love to have this for for my photoblog. theme currently i'm using full with bugs and hard to customize.

  48. daviddave October 3, 2009 at 12:57 PM #

Noooo!!! How did I miss this?!? v sad…

  49. Jiaren October 8, 2009 at 11:29 AM #

    Pick me! Pick me!

I can so see this as the perfect theme to make a portfolio online. I have a wp blog but I've been ripping the web apart looking for the perfect theme to do a makeover. Heres what I'm looking for:
    1) Minimalist
    2) Wide
    3) Big photos
    4) slide show style (fade in fade out) picture transition
    5) FREE!

If I do get this, hmm, lets see…
    Check, Check, Check, Check, Check!

even your background colours (B&W) match my default framing perfectly…although a lot of people use the same sort of framing :)

It will replace the current theme on http://www.blog.jiarenlau.com. By the way, tomorrow's my brithday so… *ahem* *ahem*…

WOW, WHAT AN UGLY TEMPLATE! i'm just joking–that's the REALLY the most BEAUTIFUL photo blog template i've ever seen! i just wanted to get your attention in hopes of winning the chance to use this template!! i'd be so honored to win. my business partner and i have recently been trying to get our photo business on the web, and we aren't really into the themes already out there. we're having such a difficult time making an interesting webpage and blog (the one up now is a really simple temporary site), so we'd appreciate the consideration so much.
